The Roman Army and the Economy 2002. Данный сборник состоит из статей ведущих специалистов в области военной экономики Римской империи. Рассматриваются многие аспекты, связанные со снабжением армии в мирное и в военное время, состоянием инфраструктуры и даже положением дел в отдельно взятых провинциях. Но, к сожалению, вопросам, связанным с «логистикой оружия», т. е. с проблемами снабжения армии вооружением, даже в таком капитальном издании отводится всего лишь несколько строк. Сведения о привлечении к изготовлению оружия для римской армии гражданского населения провинций и вновь завоеванных территорий относятся еще к республиканскому периоду. Есть сведения, что к производству вооружения привлекали даже пленных ремесленников (Liv. XXVI, 47, 2). По сообщению Цицерона, Кальпурний Пизон основал в Македонии officina armorum (Cic. In Piso. 87). Подобные оружейные цеха поставляли оружие и обмундирование войскам в Испанию на контрактной основе (Liv. XXVII, 10, 11).
